The Meet Up with Singaporean Internet Marketers

Last Saturday, I took a trip down to Singapore to meet up with Dylan Loh, Joseph Then and Alvin Phang (first time). The meeting took place in Woodlands and it lasted longer than I thought – a few hours actually.

The Singaporean Internet Marketers and Edmund Loh

L-R: Dylan, me, Joseph, Alvin

It has been a while since I last sat down with a group of highly energetic individuals who are BIG thinkers, and dare to do BIG things. I think that’s how the words ‘movers and shakers’ came about. 🙂

It was great to catch up with Joseph again, since I last saw him at Stuart Tan’s Subscribers Nite last October. I planned to bring my own laptop but foreseeing the hassles at the Malaysian-Singapore immigration I ditched that idea. After all, I already relied on Joseph to bring his trusty laptop. 🙂 Haha!

My ‘evil brother’ Dylan shared with me his latest schemes to rule the world – well okay, actually BIGGER plans to make MORE money. Oh how I love to hear those words! 🙂 In fact, I already started a mutual project with Dylan but due to time constraint, it hasn’t taken of just yet. But it will be real soon i.e. by next month!

This was my first time meeting Alvin in person. Definitely a big shot in his own rights and not to be underestimated on any account. This guy came from an I.T. background and I recognize him as a speedy Internet Entrepreneur. In just 2 short years, not only has he amassed sizable success for himself, he went on to teach others as well. AMAZING!

It’s unfortunate that Stuart couldn’t join us that day – not good timing perhaps. But I’ll be arranging another separate meet up with him soon.

Thanks for the generous sharing guys, and I hope I’ve helped you in some ways as well. We’ll be working together real soon! 🙂

Year-End Adventure and a Glimpse into 2012

** UPDATED 3rd JANUARY 2007: I will be updating this post occasionally for the next few days as I am waiting for more photos to be uploaded. In the mean time, do check back often for cool updates and new photos! ** 🙂

*** Oh, and check out my next post on New Year 2008! ***

It’s been a blast AGAIN! I’ve lost count how many times I’ve said that but hey, life’s too short to be ordinary. 🙂

Here’s how I’ve spent the last days of 2007…

Aliens vs Predator 2: Requiem

Aliens vs Predator: Requiem

The new film launched into the cinemas nation-wide on Christmas day and as an avid fan of sci-fi horror – especially that of the Aliens and Predator franchise – it is my duty to check out the latest installment to the highly anticipated sequel to Aliens vs Predator.

So I grabbed a ticket seat.

Truth be told, the first movie, directed by Paul HS Anderson, left a lot to be desired and it didn’t fully stick true to the original ‘winning’ elements set by the solo films of the Aliens and Predator franchise. In my opinion the second installment, now directed by the Strause Brothers made up for what the first show lacked. In fact, the show started from where the last film left.

I won’t spoil the plot here due to time and space constraints but take it from another sci-fi fan: it’s worth watching. REALLY.

Trip Up To Awana Genting Resort

Like the previous year, I took a trip up to Genting Highlands – Awana Genting Country & Resort Hotel to be exact. Compared to the yesteryear, the highlands was not as cold as it used to be. At the same time one year ago, the temperature was 14-15 degree Celcius; this time it’s 24-28 degrees.

Still, the view from the top was great (26th floor).

Awana View

Yep – and I could see Genting Highlands from my hotel room’s balcony! 😉

The Life Changing Party

Life Changing Party

This was the main reason why I went up to Awana Genting – to attend the Life Changing Party, hosted by SOLOBIS. It was held in the same hotel I was staying in.

Now this party is ***NOT*** a costume party. In fact, there had never been quite any party like this before (not that I know of). When you walk into the party, it’s Year 2012 – 5 years from now. You come in all ready – as you aspire to be 5 years from 2007 – wearing, dressed, behaving, acting, and talking as that person.

For example, if you aspire to be, say, a rock star, then you come in as a rock star – from clothes to “props” to personality.

The main mission of the party was to apply the Law of Attraction and help the people visualize and gain deeper focus on their dreams and goals in life. That’s the jizz in the nut shell, but you should check out the official website for more info.

Having said that, who did I come as?

“Agent” Loh

‘Signing’ the Autographs

That’s me greeting the ‘fans’ when I made my entrance (with my friends following before and after one by one). You’re welcome to take a guess at what I aspire to be 5 years from now. I want to rule out one guess, though: I DON’T want to be Agent Smith from the Matrix trilogy (like I said, this is NOT a costume party!).

Paparazzi!

As soon as my group of friends and I entered the party during the arrival of guests at 6.15 PM, we were greeted by a group of ‘fake’ fans and ‘fake’ paparazzis. You see, The “Party of Future” sees its participants being already successful in their undertakings and thus become the limelight of the media. Which is really a unique welcome on red carpet because every participant – 120 participants in all – were celebrated in blazing techni-color! 8)

There were also ‘fake’ reporters going around table to table interviewing the participants of the party. The thing is, the people have to speak in terms of present tense instead of future tense. For example, one doesn’t say “I will be a rock star” or “I aim to be a rock star” but “I AM a rock star”.

This is not to be confused with “fake it ’till you make it” but from experience, every success story we have come to know and heard of today were at one time, believe it or not, seeded with very simple (and sometimes innocent) self-believes.

This party witnesses 120 participants seeding their believe for greater heights!

There were a host of cool programs and agenda for the next 6 hours into the party like buffet dinner, booth games, and socializing. For the record, everyone was given 1 million LCP notes (think Monopoly money) to be spent or invested into any booths of their choice.

Jarrett Rogan

One of the participants and attendee at the party. Jarrett Rogan was notably one of the more outstanding people at the party and he won 1 BILLION LCP (Life Changing Party) dollars from the “Who Wants To Be A Billionaire” on-stage game, hosted by Karan Dhillon!

Sen Ze

Me on Stage

Got interviewed by Karan on stage for his talk show.

Green Fingers on Stage

Ms. “Green Fingers” being interviewed in Karan’s talk show too. I cannot recall her name but I distinctly remembered that this woman is unique from the rest because while many aspired to be ‘tycoons’ in monetary terms, she leans more towards the environmentalist side for her mission! 🙂

Late Night Drink and Hang Out at Genting Highland – First World Plaza

We drove up to Genting First World Plaza in two cars, with me joining Daniel Chin, Karan and Foo in his Fuu Fuu Mobile (Karan calls it ‘Auto Fuu’ though I think it’s not a right name for a manual car). Victor, Bryan Wong and Ian Kwok tailed behind in another car.

2007 had been, for most parts, a very fun and educational year for me and I trust the same goes for my friends and family. I wish you all a Happy New Year and to your pursuit of dreams! 🙂

Let’s Ride!

The Great November

*** UPDATED 11th DECEMBER 2007: This post will be continuously updated with photos and contents for the next few days… because A LOT had happened in the past week alone! ***

(Edmund’s Note: This is probably by far the longest post I have made on my Personal Blog to date, because it’s also the most interesting and most life-impacting so far. It’s packed with loads of photos so please be patient as they load on your browser. Thanks and happy reading and browsing!)

This simply has to be the best day in my life! 🙂

Admittedly, I’ve never (yes, never) threw a fancy bash for my birthday.

For the past 20 years.

Truth to tell, I had always wondered, “what’s so spectacular about it?” every time I see photos of other people celebrating their birthday and end the unsaid remark with, “I mean after all, it’s just another day, right?”

Riiight???

Now I know and have experienced first hand the true significance of this particularly special day that comes only once a year. It certainly wasn’t just “another day”. And I came to learn of this only after 2 decades later.

Coincidentally, my friends Khai and Yuenn had their formal marriage ceremony on the same day, and I was their bestman.

And our Internet Marketing friendlies who took the trouble to travel all the way here from both Indonesia and Iran added a lot of spice to The Great November!

It is also funny to note that how I ended up meeting most of the characters that recurringly appear on my homepage’s MyBlogLog… in person – eventually or by any other means!

Without further ado, here is the rich collection of photos taken throughout 24th November 2007:

Hours Before The Wedding – The Little Angels…

… or little rascals who were stopping us guys from reaching the bride’s room. 😉

The Little Rascals

And after what seems to be an endless battle of going through hoops after hoops of obstacles as the girls were stopping the Alpha Males from reaching the Bride’s room – being posed with challenges and questions – we finally busted into the room with Khai greeting his merry bride, Yuenn! (Although, at the expense of me being ‘lipsticked’ because Khai answered one of their questions wrongly.)

Bride is Rescued!

Bride is rescued! 🙂

The Marriage - Congratulations!

Khai & Yuenn officially wed in the witness of the Pastor. That’s me standing on the far right as Khai’s bestman.

Khai & Yuenn

Newly wed.

Edmund Loh

Sen Ze and his staff attended the wedding too, and commented that he has never seen me in a suit before. Haha, so had everyone else! Truth to tell, it feels alien to see myself wear a suit but then, I admit I look good in it. 🙂

Dee Ferdinand

Dee Ferdinand, fearless leader of Internet Marketing Indonesia and skilled photographer. We met in person for the first time at World Internet Mega Summit, Singapore, and way earlier online. He is a very friendly and nice person – definitely possess the qualities of a great friend!

There’s something big that Dee and his crew are hosting in June 2008, and I look forward to it.

Our three wise uncles Gobala, Melvin and Steven. That’s me at the far right side of the photo. 😛

The Batik Boys

In Indonesia, people who wear Batik are seen as highly respected, even more than those who wear tux and suits. It is normal for men, usually Malays, to wear Batik to formal functions. Other than VIPs and high authority individuals, bodyguards also don the Batik. This is also practiced in Malaysia.

Having said that, I got a pair of Batik for my birthday present from the Indonesian IMers. 🙂 Thanks a big bunch!

Taking Pics with Friends & New People At My Birthday Celebration

After the wedding function ended at 3:00 PM, I went home to rest and launch my birthday sale on the Internet.

At night, I found myself walking into The Red Box at The Curve. If it were me anytime earlier, I would find it hard to imagine entering a place for Karaoke since singing isn’t my thing.

But then, I believe I should try it at least once in a lifetime – and I don’t regret the decision. 🙂 In fact, I think I should do it every once in a while.

Most of my friends were there earlier in the Karaoke Room, though a couple of guys like Gobala Krishnan, Melvin Ng, and Steven Wong came in slightly late – but they still made it and added to the fun.

Edmund Loh & Kenny Tan

Me with Kenny Tan. I’ve heard of Kenny only recently and I understand that he’s highly successful in both online and offline business. Way to go!

Edmund Loh & Cornelius

With Cornelius. That’s his Catholic name, though. His buddies address him Sugam Sugeng. (Thanks for the clarification Semmy!)

Edmund Loh & Francis

Francis is a fast learner at Company of Heroes! In the last rounds, his team trounced mine – 4 times in a row! Regret teaching him the strategies – should have just taught him the basics and let him figure out the rest. 😉 One thing for sure: we all definitely enjoyed ourselves at the cyber cafe – haven’t had so much fun playing at the cyber cafe in a long time!

Edmund Loh & Semmy

Semmy may be a person of few words but the little remarks and comments he make are hillarious every now and then! Semmy and Cornelius are no ‘small fries’ in the Internet Marketing arena, though – they’re the masters of their own domains, like Adwords Marketing and a slew more to name!

Edmund Loh & Ladan Lashkari

With Ladan Lashkari – thanks for the unique birthday card! 😉 Don’t forget to video tape yourself now and then too with your favorite video camera. You will certainly want to see yourself in it years down the line from now.

Edmund Loh & Alfred Ko

With Alfred Ko a.k.a. Jie Ming. He can sing Chinese songs really, really well!

Edmund, Vince & June

Me with Vince and June. Thanks for helping me with the unselfish setup for my birthday sale! 🙂

Peng Joon, Matt and Edmund

The “Adwords in a Box” duo – Peng Joon & Matt Ng and me.
In my opinion, Matt is the best singer that night and it is a small wonder how he won the Cornetto “Sing Your Heart Out” contest!

Wait… that was a deliberate trap to ambush me!

The Karaoke Battle OR Internet Marketers Gone Wild!

We did what we came here to do – chill, have fun, sing, take photos, and socialize. 3 solid hours of doing all things fun!

Khai Sings His Heart Out!

While it may come as a surprise to many, Khai actually sings really well. I’m personally not surprised by this fact, though: Khai has enrolled himself into singing classes for the past few months in pursuit of his passion. And I think that everyone should pursue their own dreams and explore the limits, too!

Khai obviously loves to sing songs by Linkin Park. 🙂 Way to go!

Steven Wong Sings His Heart Out!

Uncles Singing Their Hearts Out!

Sunny & Jessica

Edmund Loh Can Also Sing!

Now this is a genuine surprise: I could actually sing! And I didn’t know I could, really. Of course, I am by no means up to par with anyone else in the room when it comes to talented singing plus my “data base” of songs that I can sing is limited.

However, I gave my utmost best in singing the songs I know and join along my friends even in singing songs I’ve not listened to before.

Edmund Loh SINGS!

Oh rest assured, I was NOT screaming or shouting. And no, I wasn’t singing about selling my coaching program.

Screamer!

Now THAT is screaming.

100% SOUND!

And this is what we call 100% SOUND.

Cornelius Sings His Heart Out!

The Birthday Cake!

Ahh finally… the birthday cake arrived!

Jamming with Our Indonesian Buddies

The boys spent their first 2 nights bunking over at Melvin’s place, the next 3 nights over Matt’s place and saved the last night over at my humble home! 🙂

The guys had a great time – you should check out their photo album here:

Buying Handbag

Crazy Boys!

Crazy Indonesian guys taking control of my workstation!

Now believe it or not, we spent a few nights in a row at the cyber cafe into the wee hours of morning (like 3 -4 AM)… playing Company of Heroes!

Company of Heroes

In a nutshell, the game is based on World War II divided between two main forces: The Allies (Americans) and The Axis (Germans). The American forces are versatile and have the benefit of calling in companies like that of Airborne, Armor (tanks) and Infantry.

Whereas the Germans can flex their terrifying doctrines – 2 of which allows you to deploy their deadliest tanks into the battlefield (read: The Tiger Tanks!)

You bet we had plenty of fun working together to blast each other out of the map. I remembered vividly how we played our first round of Company of Heroes when I drove a Stug IV tank right into our enemies’ infantries, and that no amount of Jeeps could take it down *hint: it’s a scissors, paper, stone type of game*

Too bad in the last 4 rounds of the game, it was my team that got the trouncing (but to be fair, I trashed them more than half the time 🙂 ). We shall have a rematch on Jakarta grounds next time!

Khai’s New House Warming

“Let’s finish Semmy off.” — Edmund Loh

Yup, that’s the punch line of the day. 🙂 (Guys, you know what I mean)

Dee, Francis, Cornelius and Semmy spent their last night over at my place in Damansara Kim, whereas for the past several days in Malaysia they bunked over at Melvin’s house and later Matt’s.

I took the Elite Indonesian crew for a shopping spree at 1Utama and later Cold Storage at IKANO because we were to head over to Khai’s new house in Mutiara Damansara, hence the shopping for food too.

Teaching LifeBoats

Khai teaching our Indonesian friends the vicious game of Lifeboats.

Let’s Finish Semmy Off!

The progress of the game where every sailor gets kicked out – one by one. Let’s finish Semmy off. 🙂

The Cake… Again!

At the same time, Khai’s guests came to visit the new house. And coincidentally, Yuenn’s birthday is also around the corner i.e. 29th November! So we pretty much celebrated her birthday in advance. Oh, and I get to help myself with the cake and make another wish for the third time in the last 3 days!

Huuuuff!

Huuuuuff!

Thank you all for making this night an unforgettable, wonderful experience! 🙂

More photos and content coming soon…

Thanks and Credits to Dee Ferdinand for all the cool, professional photos!

The Amazing Walk to Subscriber’s Nite

I attended Stuart Tan’s Subscribers Nite yesterday and I must say that it totally exceeded my expectations; I was pleased.

Initially, Ashley and I were hunting for a hotel room in Tanjong Pagar, Singapore and later found ourselves at Tiong Bahru, 2 stations away. All the hotels we had been to were fully booked! We wonder what the special occasion was.

spidermen.jpg

Fortunately, we have a place in JB town otherwise we’d be spending the night on the streets of Singapore! We were offered a suite but given it was only a night for two, I found it not worth the spending. The only regrets I had were that I should’ve brought more name cards, and wished I could spend more time after the event.

ENGRISH!!

Ashley picked up an abundance of gems from the event itself, since she’s relatively not totally exposed to Internet Marketing (yet).

I had the privilege to meet a bunch of cool folks such as:-

Stuart Tan “da man”
The host for the night. Cannot help but poke fun into his speech at times but he sure got me when he publicly exposed my “free labor tactic” (those who had been there that night, you know what I’m talking about 😉 ).

Jaz Lai
His presentation and speech were good, and I picked up quite some gems from his list building methods. Hmm.. would it surprise you if I told you Jaz Lai was formerly a fashion designer? Again, should have stayed longer so I could pick his brains.

Joseph Then
Hah – it was good seeing him in person again. We really should work on SEARIM #2. 🙂

Justin Koh
Didn’t expect to see him there, though not entirely surprised. Was half expecting his other tag team partner, Nelson, to turn up.

Pat
Pat was handing out a set of unique name cards, each with a picture of different fruits. I chose the one with grapes and amazingly, Pat could foretell my character on the spot – simply by the type of fruit I picked! I don’t know about others, but she was right when she explained I’m that of a thinker and loner by nature. These individuals tend to pick grapes. The leader-type tend to pick tomatoes whereas follower-minds often pick the pear.

Ming Chern
Haven’t seen Ming Chern for a while already. Hair’s already long. Haa ha…

Jacklyn Ker
For some reason, I think that Jacklyn’s pretty familiar. I wonder if I saw her at the last Subscriber’s Nite some months back?

Azmi
Didn’t really had the chance to talk to him long enough, but he owes me a photo! 😛

Edmund Toh (the clone?)
There must be a factory nearby producing a bender of spoons in my brand. He’s been visiting my blog often (under the name of BillionaireKid on MyBlogLog). Not too long ago, he’s just completed his service to the Singapore Army and is going full speed in the Network Marketing arena!

Andrew Tan
This chap associates with Shawn Wang and Joel Christopher, who had been in Singapore not too long ago. For a moment, I thought that Andrew IS Shawn – but he went on to say that they actually look miles apart. Oops, my bad.

I’ve met way more people at the event than the enlisted names for sure, but can’t recall every single one of them unfortunately (sorry if your name isn’t here!).

Moral of the story: always bring your name cards!

Moral of the story #2: And then, bring some more! 🙂

unclesunitedwithyoungman.jpg

All in all, the event was a good one and I look forward to another one like this!

Saturday Night Party at Bangsar Permai

Due to limited Internet access I hardly went online for the last few days and even so, I needed to attend to my PLRGold5 customer support issues and inquiries.

Okay, now when was the last time I actually partied this hard? Hmm… 🙂

Daylight Rush

It was a rush in the day time as I had just relocated to the Damansara Kim the day before. Khai and I purchased a set of furniture from IKEA but unfortunately, I have to left hands when it comes to handiwork. And almost anything purchased from IKEA is Do-It-Yourself.

At least I’ve set up my own chair. 🙂

Since I couldn’t stand seeing my room in such a mess, I decided to hire Mattgyver again to help me with the setting up of the cupboard and half-done table.

It turned out that I bought a set of cheap, lousy tools for the job. So yeah, I went out and bought the best screwdriver I could fine and we got the table and cupboard all set up in a breeze – wheeeee!

I had to buy myself a new pair of clothes and a bottle of wine (or was it champagne? No idea) since not only is it a good customary to NOT come to a party empty-handed, it is also good NOT to wear old clothes, especially if you have been wearing them since 1999 and that you have busted a hole or two in your underwear.

Rush Hour 4?

I made haste to Bangsar Permai so I left home at least 2 hours early because not only am I not familiar with the Bangsar area, I didn’t want to take a gamble on taxi drivers who may or may not be willing to drive me there from my location.

So I did a smart thing: just hop a bus to KL Sentral from Uptown and then get the cabby to drive me to the doorstep of Bangsar Permai. 🙂

I came just in time (at 9:00 PM) only to find out that there will still preparations going on. Couldn’t stand just standing around, I offered some help – like following Khai Lee to 7-11 to buy some ice and mineral water. The apartment scene was a déjà vu though, considering that I had spent the last couple of days shifting and doing home preparations.

It was only an hour later or so that the apartment became sardine-packed with people from all walks of life (literally) and turned into a party pad before anyone knows it.

The People

Coming much well prepared this time – with sleek new clothes, a bottle of something and name cards to go – check out the people whom I have had the pleasure of meeting at the party bash:

Mindvalley People
Since Mindvalley is an army of brains packed into one entity, I will generally classify them all as “Mindvalley People”. Since they were hosting the party thus deserve the first mention. 🙂 Props for organizing such a fantastic party! See you people on coming Monday.

The Bartender
Didn’t get to hear his name properly (sounded like Shiken or something) – he was one of the earliest guests that came over, besides me. 🙂 Thanks a bunch for launching the drinks over, and understanding that I don’t drink alcohol.

Jason Lim
What do you know? He was my scout senior back in high school! His face looks rounder now, though I could recognize some distinct features. Currently, he is a business consultant and must be doing pretty well!

Michelle
I have to admit the party dance was lively because of her, but she did look like a dancing skeleton! 😛

Seng Chai
Haha… the 26-year old guy who hasn’t really revealed what he does!

Nicholas & Joyce
I had no idea they were from my former high school, too! And what more surprising was that I don’t recall seeing them before since they are only one year older than me. Even though I didn’t talk or get to know with every single person at school back then, I would have at least remembered faces. But I didn’t remember seeing Nicholas or Joyce. Nicholas was from an IT class – the same class as another guy named Mun Tuck, another chap I once know. Hmm…

Xin-Ci
For the first 5 seconds, I didn’t recognize her even after she greeted me. Plus, I thought she was supposed to be in Penang (but no, she was here too)! I trusted her with some writing work just recently and expected her to work while I go party. 😛 I should feel really guilty! Still, it was great to see her in person again.

John Tan & Iris
HIGHLIGHT: Now this is SERIOUSLY one of the last people on Earth I expected to meet… again!

I barely remembered John initially (and so does he anyway). I introduced myself to him and talked casually until I realized that… you know what? He and I and the rest of the ole’ neighborhood gang used to frequent cyber cafes some 10 years ago! Yes, with other chaps like Yoon Wei, Wai King, Lek Soon, Thavan, Vincent Tan, Victor Tang, and more.

I wasn’t a close friend of his since he studied in a different school and like me, led a totally different life from high school onwards. But even though he’s into the games business (he always love gaming) I felt that we share a lot in common let alone much to talk about!

Another example of “the world is getting smaller” and a case of law of attraction in effect?

John is only one year older than me but he’s very, very enterprising. He started his first business at the age of 17 in New Zealand, and now runs a game development company.

He has this interesting theory that gamers are actually enterprising people (or something along those lines. I got to check with him again soon). I think it’s already proven! 🙂

Jarrod
A friend and business partner of John Tan, though he runs his own company in the filming field. A very nice guy though he could use some help on abstaining from drinking too much. 🙂

Dancing

Ok nothing much to write about it since it was all dance, dance, dance… which I haven’t been dancing let alone partied this hard since the last time I could remember.

And the party couldn’t be more fun without me busting out a display of raw skills and energy on the dance floor. 🙂

This went on all the way until 4 in the morning.

Bangsar Permai Party with Edmund Loh

L-R: Iris, John Tan, Khai Lee, Me.

Okay, not one of our best photos – we look so tired and messed up after several hours into the party – talking and dancing (and drinking and smoking for some others).

All in all, Saturday night was a blast!
